From Lecture Halls to Yarn Balls: How I Turned My Passion into a Crochet Business

If you had told me years ago that I’d trade in my university lectures and research papers for a basket of yarn and a crochet hook, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. But here I am—running my own small business, creating handcrafted crochet keychains, baby rattles, and custom plushies—and I couldn’t be happier.

Before starting this journey, I built a career in academia. I hold two master’s degrees and a PhD in International Business and Global Affairs, and I worked as a university professor for many years.  I was immersed in a world of global markets, research, theories, and lectures. I enjoyed every bit of it, especially the feeling of enriching young minds with knowledge. But at a certain point, I wanted to do something different, something that appeals to my creative mind, rather than my academic one.

That “something” turns out to be crochet.

Crocheting has always been more than just a hobby for me. It was my way of unwinding after a long day, expressing creativity, and crafting joy, one stitch at a time. What began as personal projects slowly turned into gifts, then requests… and then a business.

What sets my work apart isn’t just the years of experience (though I do have over a decade of crochet practice!). It’s the heart behind every piece. I don’t rush the process. I believe in slow, intentional art that brings joy and comfort. Each item is handmade with the kind of care you just can’t find in mass-produced toys.
